Going one baby step foward

OK, I got a working draft going with references to articles under each subtopic. With this, writing should be easier, I hope. Not done yet, only on my way ...

Madeline, I would love any advice to make the process easier. I am keeping articles and have folders on my computer for pdfs. I am horrible with endnotes and I really haven't put my effort into learning the software.

Hi Susan,

Since I started at UF I have kept all the documents from every class organized by course. This helped me go back and get a particular article we had read before right away. At the end of every semester I organized all the documents from each class in a binder or folder and the extra readings (for papers) in another folder by topic. I also have a binder with the papers and annotated bibliographies I have made. Another thing I did was making notes of most of my readings, including quotes of things that talked to me in a special way.

EndNotes is a very good tool. At this moment I regret not putting the time to get used to it. I expected the program to, most of all, help me with writing references and the version I got did not communicated well with my iBook (I think it had to do with the change of operating system at the time). But if I had put the time, finding articles I read about a specific topic would be a lot faster and I would have the summaries right there, easy to copy and past when needed.

In general, I think the important thing is to get into a system and keep it, no matter how little time we think we have available for it. Once you get used to your own system, it will help you a lot when trying to find a specific article.

I hope this help, Madeline :-)
