The beginnings of Chapter 2
I am determined to start chapter 2 this weekend. I should have at least 5 pages by Sunday! How wonderful it will be. I have my outline, and Carol M. Roberts' book (The Dissertation Journey, 2004) by my side. I also pulled out some papers I wrote during these three years, and my qualifying exam papers. I have the purpose of my dissertation from chapter 1 and the list of variables I should write about. I am set ... to be critical, not only to summarize [[Easier said that done!!]].
Later today, I will go to the library and look at how others have started their chapter 2, but first I need to write something. My advisor says it is time!!! So, here I go ...
It is nerve breaking. I pace around trying to decide what to write first. I think that if I can get that first paragraph going, everything else will follow. Yes, with lots of revisions ... that's OK, that is part of the process, and I welcome all suggestions and take them seriously.
If I can make it, I will go to the movies on Sunday! I will let you know what I saw. :-)

You are so right... to get anything down is a good first step - revisions are a part of the process. Why is starting so hard?? Is there a way to make it at least a little easier?? Best of luck to you today on your writing endeavors!!
Hum... how to make it easier? I think it has to do with determination, to focus, and know you will need to go back to revise, rewrite, add, delete, and much more. But once you have something, you are able to work on it, and polish it the best you can. :-)
