Transitions
Data analysis is almost done! It was divided into three chapters, allowing me to develop a Preliminary Mathematics Discourse Model throughout a first period of analysis (Chapter 5) and to revise and refine it (Chapters 6 & 7) after analyzing more data. Chapter 7 is done and now I wait for its revisions. So, I took a couple of days to work with the final editions of chapters 5 & 6.
I now shift from data analysis to literature review, but it has been difficult. My mind is still thinking about data analysis. While looking for more resources to built up the literature review I’ve been looking at the Dissertation Abstracts Database. Searching for technology in mathematics, informal learning in mathematics, communication in mathematics (writing to learn, discourse, meaning-making), online collaboration, and asynchronous learning made me think about how my dissertation abstract will look like. Therefore, I started writing the first draft of my abstract. I have also selected some keywords and subject headings that could describe my work.
Little by little I am approaching to the end of my dissertation. I can see myself sharing my work with my Committee members and talking about new possibilities. But I need to calm down and finish what I have left: Chapters 2 reviews, Chapter 7 reviews, Chapter 1 reviews, and writing Chapter 8 with its corresponding reviews. I still have quite a bit to do! Yes … it looks like a lot of work, but I have four chapters in their final stage, at least for now. :)
